Plastic Lumber ConstructionHow ACT Timbers are Constructed![]() Not all plastics are considered composites. When additional strength is required, many types of polymers (plastics) can be reinforced with structural materials to meet the higher performance demands. Only when a polymer is reinforced is it considered a fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composite. Composition by Weight Maximum, RECYCLED POLYETHYLENE: HDPE = 80% Maximum, FIBERGLASS REINFORCING AGENT CONTENT = 20% Additives to ensure UV stabilization and flame retardancy may total no more than 2%
ACT Timbers are manufactured using a process known as extrusion. The finished product is a continuous, homogenous section that has fiberglass throughout to enhance the strength and stiffness of the timber. ACT is manufactured in a range of industry standard dimensions and lengths and can be manufactured in tongue & groove and ship-lap profiles. |
